Grandparent Visitation Mediation
Generally, grandparents love their grandchildren, and want to maintain a positive relationship with them. This "want" can be a source of conflict, which occasionally ends up being decided by a judge. The judge, however, does not know the family, nor any of the individuals in the family, i.e., the grandparents, the parents nor the children; and therefore, may make a decision that no member of the family would have made if given a choice.
Mediation gives every member of the family a choice to consider -- everyone's views are heard and discussed; everyone's needs and wants are explored, and a rational decision is made by the family based on what is best for everyone involved; with particular emphasis on what is in the best interest of the children.
If the grandparents are contemplating asserting their "rights" in court, it is important to remember that the court has held that grandparents are REQUIRED to attempt to amicably resolve visitation disputes BEFORE initiating litigation -- mediation provides the forum for the amicable resolution of a visitation dispute.
